Fire Hazard: 90K Genesis Recalled!

This week, Hyundai issued a recall of 90,000 cars using Genesis tag to fix some sedans’ fire risk. The recalled vehicles are 2015–2016 Hyundai Genesis models, 2017–2019 Genesis G90s, 2017-2019 Genesis G80s, and 2019 Genesis G70s.

It was reported that the solenoid starter circuit could fail due to water damage in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To put it in another way, this can lead to an electrical shortage that Hyundai says “could cause an engine compartment fire when the car is at rest or in motion.” Should the short give birth to a fire then the blaze will eat up the engine compartment first and then invade the rest of the car.

The complaint states that the company intends to deal with the issue by installing a remedy relay kit in the engine junction box of the affected models. For safety reasons and to prevent a house fire when there is a car fire, owners are asked to park their cars away from flammable structures until the recall repair is done.

Hyundai acknowledges that this issue has already led to just a few “thermal incidents’, though it is unclear if any of those have escalated into a vehicle fire. Those various events are known to have disrupted traffic or damaged vehicles but none of them caused a car to crash or a person to get injured, but the risk of a fire underneath a car’s hood is evident. Distraught that any Genesis owner bearing a recalled vehicle should seek restoration as soon as possible.
